Telomeres and 'The Immortality Edge'

Anyone’s who’s ever met me, had a private session or read my book Life Shift: Let Go and Live Your Dream know one of my life’s principal mantras: age is just a number.

How else could I have believed I could have twins at age 57, becoming one of the ‘oldest’ women ever to do so in the U.S.? I’ve encouraged thousands of clients over the years pursuing dreams of careers in show business, entrepreneurship or starting their own families to believe that age is merely a state of mind, and should never close the doors to a dream.

That’s why I’m so excited to share this amazing book -- The Immortality Edge: Realize the Secrets of Your Telomeres for a Longer, Healthier Life by Michael Fossel, Greta Blackburn and Dave Woynarowski – with you. I contributed a section in The Immortality Edge regarding the boom in meditation. Meditation is one of the key factors why I am able to have so much vitality and staying power at 63 as a single mother of energetic 6 year old twins with an extensive healing practice--  so be sure to look for it! (pages 108 to 110).

But you might be asking, your what? Telomeres?

The Learn.Genetics website at the University of Utah defines telomeres like this: “Telomeres have been compared with the plastic tips on shoelaces because they prevent chromosome ends from fraying and sticking to each other, which would scramble an organism's genetic information to cause cancer, other diseases or death.”

In other words, telomeres may be the body’s key to anti-aging, and our culture is catching on fast. “Telomere” is fast becoming the ‘buzz’ word of 2011. The Wall St. Journal recently featured an article about mice that were growing younger, and.the Nobel prize for 2010 was awarded to scientists researching telomeres.

The Immortality Edge offers a host of anti-aging tips, an entire plan (including fitness, exercise and even recipes) to help you stay younger and prevent disease at any age.

The publication of this book, recent research and flurry of headlines are leading to some fascinating debates: Are there people on this earth who are immortal? Is it our future for most of us to live to be 120 years old?

So what do you think? Have you heard of telomeres? Leave your comments below and I’ll check back and offer my own insights.

Blessings,

Aleta

  1. I MAY be biased but I think this book is the best buy for anyone’s money if they want to be part of my “100 is the new 50!” campaign.
Life Extension Magazine called it essential reading and praised its nuts and bolts, practical value.
For those of Aleta’s fans who want to dig REALLY deep check out www.manhattanbeachproject.com for telomeres and BEYOND.
NUKING AGING is my passion and I’m happy to share my thoughts or info with any of the Aleta (love her!) peeps.
